Switch Mobility Unveils New Electric Buses for India and Europe
2 min readSwitch Mobility, a subsidiary of India’s commercial vehicle giant Ashok Leyland, has introduced two new electric city buses: the EiV12 designed for the Indian market and the E1 developed for Europe, with its debut planned in Spain.
Distinct Yet Unified Design
Both models share the same platform and design language but are tailored to different regional requirements. The EiV12 is a low-floor city bus tailored for India. Depending on customer preferences, it can be equipped with batteries offering energy capacities between 189 kWh and 423 kWh. In its highest configuration, the bus can cover up to 314 kilometers on a single charge, according to the company’s specifications.
The EiV12 can accommodate up to 39 passengers, depending on the seating arrangement. Passenger safety, particularly for women, has been prioritized with the provision for installing up to five CCTV cameras inside the bus. The vehicle also features large panoramic windows that allow ample natural light and includes kneeling and tilting mechanisms to facilitate boarding and disembarking, especially for the elderly and people with disabilities.

European Market Focus
In parallel, Switch Mobility has developed the E1 electric bus for European countries, emphasizing lightweight construction. It features hub motors and a 400-kWh NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery pack. Detailed technical specifications are yet to be disclosed, but the bus is confirmed to have 28 seats and a maximum capacity of 93 passengers, including standing spaces. The E1 will make its first appearance in Spain.
