Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar surprised many on Thursday by returing from Mumbai to present the state budget. The CM was undergoing treatment for ‘mild pancreatitis’ at the Lilavati hospital in Mumbai since February 15.
He left the hospital for emergency work but will be back in Mumbai on Thursday to continue the treatment,” officials at the Lilavati Hospital said.
Parrikar, in a short speech, highlighted the main points of the budget. The valuation of this year’s budget is estimated to be Rs 17, 123 crore. He is also expected to hand over the charge of his five portfolios to other ministers in his cabinet for a temporary period.
The CM may lay down a framework for the functioning of fhe government for the period that he is away.
“The chief minister will also hold a cabinet meeting before he heads back to Mumbai,” Vijai Sardesai, Goa’s agriculture minister from the Goa Forward Party, said.
Parrikar is expected to address a press conference later before he returns to Mumbai to continue his treatment.
