Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday informed that Goa government would be construction 70,000 toilets in the state under the Open Defecation Free (ODF) scheme. However, villages in the wildlife sanctuaries of the state will be dealt differently.
Parrikar further added that since the villages in Goa’s wildlife sanctuaries were legislated by the Wildlife Protection Act and they do not come under the general scheme to make the state ODF.
“I don t consider the situation at the villages in these wildlife sanctuaries to be at par with that of the average village. If I want to construct a toilet in a wildlife sanctuary, then permission under the Wildlife Protection Act has to be sought,” CM said.
“There are 25,000 houses which have no proper toilets, excluding the ones in wildlife areas,” he added.
