MGP to support BJP in RS polls and assembly by-polls but to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election

Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has revealed that it will support the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Vinay Tendulkar in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Besides, the party will also support the BJP in Valpoi and Panaji by-polls. Party President Deepak Dhavlikar revealed on Saturday.

“Our party will support BJP candidate for the Rajya Sabha election. We will also support BJP during the by elections in Panaji and Valpoi constituencies,” MGP president Deepak Dhavalikar was quoted by PTI.

Dhavalikar also mentioned that the party will contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and field candidates in both of Goa’s Lok Sabha seats. “We will contest both the Lok Sabha seats on our own. Both the candidates will contest on MGP symbol,” he said.

He further said that MGP has won a vote share of 11.5 per cent for the 2017 assembly polls in Goa and would have won another 4-5 per cent if they had not had an alliance with Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) and Shiv Sena. MGP had won three seats in the assembly polls and later supported the BJP to form the government.

The regional party contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls will pit it against its coalition partner BJP. The party candidates have the Public Works Department (PWD), Transport department, Tourism ministry under them besides the Chairmanship of Goa State Infrastructure Developmental Corporation (GSIDC).
