The scheme Goa Yuva Samwad Yojana which offered free internet and talktime to Goan youth has been discontinued by the state government from July 1, 2017. The initiative during the time of its introduction was touted to be felicitating Digital India campaign by the central government.
Former CM of Goa Laxmikant Parsekar had introduced the scheme for the state youth in partnership with telecom giant Vodafone. The beneficiaries of the scheme were all the youth in the age group of 16-30 years. The scheme when introduced, was supposed to be continued for 3 years and offered 3GB Internet and 100 minutes free talktime every month.

Goa Electronics Limited was the nodal agency given the responsibility of the implementation of the scheme. “The Goa Government is in the process of reassessing the Goa Yuva Samvad Yojana, and in view of the same the scheme benefits will be discontinued from 01-Jul-2017. The scheme will stand inoperative until further notice,” stated the notice by Goa Electronics Limited. The announcement of the discontinuation comes merely 8 months after its introduction.
