FC Goa have decided to do their pre-season training in Spain ahead of the next edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) which kicks off later this year. The training will start from October 10 onwards.
This is not the first time the team will be going to a foreign country to train. The team has earlier been to Dubai and Brazil (last season). The team is scheduled to spend six weeks training at La Manga.
“The team will assemble in Goa on October 1 and train here for a week. All the (foreign) players will be arriving in Goa, acclimatising for a week, and then they will be off to Spain. The plan is to have three weeks of pre-season in Spain,” a source told ToI.
The Goan football club will have the option of playing teams from Spanish Segunda Division. “There was also an option of training in Dubai but Spain was preferred because of the quality of opposition for friendlies. In Dubai, all top teams are involved in their league matches so they wouldn’t play any additional matches. In Spain, we have the option of playing teams from the Spanish Segunda Division who will give the team a good run,” the source was quoted by PTI.
