Farmers in Goa can now avail a subsidy for the construction of a fence to protect their crops from damage caused by domestic or wild animals. As of 28th July, 2016, the Government of Goa, a introduced the ‘Assistance for fencing’ scheme.
To avail the subsidy provided by the government, the farmers should be actively engaged in agricultural activities and possess a Krishi Card with the classification of their respective land holdings. Also, farmers should be cultivating 0.2 Hectare in general and 0.1 Hectare in the case of field crops (paddy, pulses, oilseeds) and short gestation high investment fruit (banana, papaya, pineapple).
The scheme provides assistance of 75% to general and 90% to SC/ST category for the construction of the fence.
A subsidy of 90% of standard cost or actual cost (whichever is lower) to all farmers is provided for constructing special ‘Solar Powered Battery Fences’. While there is no ceiling limit for the subsidy or the length of the fence on the registered farmer groups, individual farmers will have a capping limit of Rs. 2.00 lakhs.
